Chapter 01: Overview

Getting started

Lyros is built for catalog work, not one-off copy tricks. It helps you find weak product content, improve it with AI, and publish the parts you approve back to Shopify.

Main app
The Lyros product tagger. Use it to search, filter, generate Shopify tags, restore previous tag sets, and run tag jobs on selected or filtered products.
SEO Insights
A catalog health screen. It points you to products with missing meta fields, thin descriptions, weak titles, missing alt text, or tag issues.
AI SEO Studio
The workspace for SEO Meta, Image Alt-Text, Product Title, and Description. Each tab has its own filters, prompt controls, preview or review state, and bulk controls.
Pricing & Plans
Where you estimate credits, buy credit bundles, choose a subscription, or set up pay as you go billing through Shopify.
The safest rhythm

Analyze first, filter the product list, generate a draft, read the explanation, make edits, then save. Bulk jobs are powerful, but the best results still come from a clean scope and a specific prompt.

Chapter 02: SEO Insights

Find the right work before generating anything

SEO Insights is the fastest way to understand where your catalog is weak. It scans your products and groups issues by severity and feature area.

  1. Open SEO Insights from the app navigation

You will see the current analysis status, last updated time, total products analyzed, and issue cards when analysis is available.

  2. Click Refresh Analysis when the data looks stale

Refreshing asks Lyros to rescan the catalog. While it runs, avoid judging the totals too closely; the final counts appear after processing finishes.

  3. Sort issues by severity, not by curiosity

Critical issues deserve attention first. Missing meta descriptions, missing alt text, and very thin product descriptions usually have a clearer payoff than cosmetic rewrites.

  4. Use the action on an insight card

The action takes you into the correct AI SEO Studio tab with the affected products in focus when exact targeting is available.

  5. Clear the insight filter when you are done

If a banner says you are viewing products from a specific insight, use Show all products to return to your full catalog.

Insight typeWhere it sends youWhat to do next
Meta issuesAI SEO Studio, SEO MetaReview missing or short metadata, then optimize individual products or start a scoped bulk job.
Alt text issuesAI SEO Studio, Image Alt-TextUse Manage for a careful image-by-image pass, or bulk generate for images that need coverage.
Title qualityAI SEO Studio, Product TitleGenerate an editable title, check the character guidance, then save only titles that stay accurate.
Thin descriptionsAI SEO Studio, DescriptionOpen the composer, choose preferences, generate, preview, then save the finished product description.
Tag issuesMain product taggerGenerate tags for filtered or selected products, or use classification when tags must come from an approved list.
Chapter 03: Product tags

Generate useful Shopify tags

Tags are for organization, filtering, collections, internal workflows, and on-site discovery. Lyros can generate them product by product, for selected products, or for everything in a filtered view.

  1. Open Lyros - Smart Product Tagger

This is the home screen of the app. Products appear in a ResourceList with an image, title, current tags, and a Generate Tags or Restore button.

  2. Filter before you generate

Use search plus Status, Product Type, Vendor, Tags, Inventory, and Collection filters. Turn on Exclude Lyros tagged products when you only want products that have not already been processed.

  3. Set tag guidance if needed

Open the advanced prompt settings when you need a specific style, such as material tags, audience tags, or short two-word tags. Save the settings before generating.

  4. Use classification for a controlled vocabulary

In Classification mode, paste the only tags Lyros is allowed to choose from. Pick Any number, Exactly N tags, or Up to N tags. This is best for stores with strict collection or filter systems.

  5. Generate one product

Click Generate Tags on a product row. Lyros updates the product tags and shows a Why these tags explanation when available.

  6. Generate selected products

Click Select, choose products, then use Generate Tags. This is the careful way to process a small group with shared context.

  7. Generate a filtered group

After applying filters, use Generate Tags for Filtered. Confirm the count before starting so you do not process more products than intended.

  8. Restore when needed

If a product has restore records, the row shows Restore. Use it to return to the previous tag set for that product.

Tag quality rule

Good tags are boring in the best way: consistent, searchable, and useful for merchandising. Avoid turning tags into sentence fragments, marketing claims, or near-duplicates such as blue, blues, and blue product.

Chapter 04: SEO Meta

Optimize meta titles and meta descriptions

SEO Meta controls how a product is described to search engines and preview surfaces. It does not replace the visible product description on the product page.

Understand the screen

The SEO Meta tab shows KPI tiles for products optimized, average SEO score, and products needing optimization. Below that, a Custom AI Instructions card lets you guide bulk generation. The product list includes filters for SEO Status, SEO Score, Product Status, and Tags.

  1. Open AI SEO Studio, then choose SEO Meta

The SEO Meta tab is the first tab in the studio. The tab bar also includes Image Alt-Text, Product Title, and Description.

  2. Review the current score and fields

Each product row shows its current meta title and meta description. Warnings appear when fields are missing, too short, too long, or low quality.

  3. Preview before editing

Use Preview to see how the current SEO content may appear in Google and social previews. This helps you spot truncation and weak opening words.

  4. Generate SEO for one product

Click Optimize SEO, Optimize SEO Title, or Optimize SEO Description depending on the active generation type. Lyros drafts the selected metadata.

  5. Edit and save in the SEO editor

The editor shows Meta Title, Meta Description, length guidance, a search preview, a before-and-after comparison, and Why this SEO draft. Click Save to publish to Shopify.

  6. Set custom instructions for repeatable output

Click Set up in Custom AI Instructions. Choose whether the prompt applies to title and description, title only, or description only. Keep the prompt under the character limit and focused on tone, keywords, and structure.

  7. Run bulk only after reviewing the estimate

Bulk Optimize SEO opens a confirmation with the number of products, skipped products, estimated credits, and whether the job auto-applies changes. Start only when the scope matches your intent.

Recommended lengths

Aim for a concise meta title and a useful meta description. Lyros shows character guidance in the editor, but accuracy matters more than filling every character.

Chapter 05: Image Alt-Text

Write accessible image descriptions

Alt text helps screen-reader users understand images, and it can help image search understand what is pictured. Lyros gives you both careful manual review and faster bulk generation.

  1. Open AI SEO Studio, then choose Image Alt-Text

The top tiles show total images, images needing optimization, and images optimized. The list shows product cards with the featured image and current alt text state.

  2. Filter the image backlog

Use Alt-Text Status to show Has Alt-Text or Missing Alt-Text. You can also filter by product status and tags, or search by product name, description, type, or vendor.

  3. Generate the featured image quickly

On a product card, click Generate featured when the first image has no alt text, or Regenerate featured when you want a replacement. This applies the generated alt text to Shopify.

  4. Use Manage for a full product review

Manage opens all images for the product. Click Generate For Missing to draft alt text only where it is blank, Generate or Regenerate for a single image, or Regenerate All when you intentionally want to replace existing alt text.

  5. Read the before-and-after section

For generated text, the modal shows Original and Generated values plus Why this alt text. Use the quality checks to catch vague or overly long descriptions.

  6. Apply or discard the generated text

Click Apply Generated to save it to Shopify, or discard it if it is not right. You can also type your own alt text and click Save.

  7. Bulk generate all products when coverage matters

Generate Alt-Text for All Products opens an estimate. Bulk alt text is auto-applied, prioritizes missing alt text first, and usually uses 1 credit per successfully processed image.

  • Describe what is visible, not what you hope the image sells.
  • Do not start every alt text with "image of" or "product photo of" unless that phrase is truly useful.
  • Include color, material, shape, and product type when they matter to the shopper.
  • Decorative images in themes may not need alt text, but product images almost always benefit from it.
Chapter 06: Product Title

Improve product titles without losing accuracy

Product titles affect search, collection browsing, and shopper confidence. Lyros drafts stronger titles, but the final title should still sound like your store.

  1. Open AI SEO Studio, then choose Product Title

The tab shows title KPI tiles, a Product Title card, a custom prompt control, and a product list.

  2. Add a short custom prompt when helpful

Open Custom prompt and add constraints such as premium tone, include material and color, or limit to about 65 to 70 characters. The prompt applies to new manual and bulk generations.

  3. Filter the list

Search by product name, description, type, or vendor. Use Product Status and Tags to narrow the products you want to work on.

  4. Generate a title for one product

Click Generate. Lyros shows a Review generated title panel instead of immediately overwriting Shopify.

  5. Compare current and new title

The review panel shows Current title, New title, character count, recommended length status, and Why this title. Edit the generated title directly if needed.

  6. Save or keep the current title

Click Save to Shopify to publish the edited title, or Keep current title to discard the draft.

  7. Use bulk title generation carefully

Generate Titles for All Products auto-generates and applies titles to products that need them for the current prompt. Review the estimate, skipped count, and restore note before starting.

Title caution

Do not let keywords make titles clumsy. A title should still be recognizable to staff, customers, and fulfillment teams.

Chapter 07: Product Description

Compose descriptions with review, preview, and restore

Descriptions are visible selling copy on your Shopify product pages. The Description tab is the most editor-like part of Lyros, with rich text, HTML, live preview, generation preferences, and version history.

  1. Open AI SEO Studio, then choose Description

The top summary shows total products, descriptions optimized, and products needing optimization. Below it, SKUs appear in a list with description snippets and word counts.

  2. Find the right SKU

Search by title, variant, or SKU. Use filters and sort controls to focus on the products that need fresh descriptions.

  3. Open the composer

Click Compose on a SKU. If you selected multiple SKUs first, the composer lets you choose the active SKU from a dropdown while keeping the group selected.

  4. Choose generation preferences

Set the framework, length, tone, and other options shown in the preferences area. These choices shape the draft before you spend time editing.

  5. Generate the draft

Click Generate. Lyros drafts the description and shows Why this draft with source fields and quality checks.

  6. Edit in Rich Text or HTML

Use Rich Text for normal writing. Switch to HTML when you need direct markup control. Unsupported tags are stripped before save, and Lyros warns you when that will happen.

  7. Preview the result

Click Preview to see the sanitized description in a live preview block. This is useful for checking headings, lists, links, and spacing before publishing.

  8. Save to Shopify

Click Save only when the description is ready. Manual generation creates a draft first; Save is the publishing step.

  9. Use version history when needed

After saved versions exist, click Restore to open Version history. Preview an older version, then restore it if the current description is not the one you want.

Visible copy, not metadata

Product descriptions appear on your product pages. Meta descriptions appear in SEO metadata. They are related, but saving one does not automatically replace the other.

Chapter 08: Bulk jobs

Run bulk work without surprises

Bulk jobs save hours, but they also publish faster than manual review. Lyros shows scope, skipped items, credits, apply mode, and progress so you can decide before committing.

  1. Decide the feature first

Tags, SEO meta, alt text, product titles, and descriptions each have their own bulk flow. Start from the tab where you want the changes to happen.

  2. Prefer a small scope for first runs

Use selected products or a tight filter before running a full catalog job. This gives you a sample of the output style.

  3. Read the review card

The Action Review card explains what will be generated, whether changes are auto-applied, how many items are in scope, what is skipped, and the estimated credit cost.

  4. Check restore availability

Some features can restore previous values when backend restore records exist. Other features, such as alt text bulk generation, may not offer restore.

  5. Start the job once

After starting, progress appears in the tab, a modal, or the Activity page. Avoid clicking start repeatedly for the same scope.

  6. Watch failures, not only completion

A job can complete with failed items. Open details or Activity to see which products failed and whether they should be retried.

FeatureBulk behaviorBest first scope
TagsCan process selected or filtered products. Restore may be available per product.A collection, vendor, or product type.
SEO MetaAuto-applies meta title and description changes after confirmation.Products missing metadata or low SEO score.

DescriptionCan generate new products only or all products with the latest prompt.New products only, unless you are intentionally refreshing the catalog.
Chapter 09: Activity and usage

Check what happened after the job runs

Activity and Usage are your audit trail. Use them when you need to confirm progress, understand credit consumption, or investigate a failed job.

Activity

  1. Open Activity from the navigation

You will see recent bulk jobs with feature, status, item counts, credits, timestamps, summary, and any errors returned by the job.

  2. Filter by feature or status

Use feature filters such as Product tags, SEO meta, Product title, Product description, Alt text, and Classification. Use status filters such as Queued, Processing, Completed, Failed, or Cancelled.

  3. Open the feature link

When available, the feature link returns you to the screen where that job belongs.

  4. Use restore preview carefully

If restore is available, Lyros can show a preview before restoring. Nothing changes until you confirm.

Usage

  1. Open Usage from the navigation

The Usage Dashboard shows credits used or total spent, current limits, credit balance, account status, and warnings when usage is high.

  2. Refresh when you just finished a job

Use the refresh button if a bulk job finished recently and the numbers have not updated yet.

  3. Watch warning banners

Medium, high, critical, and exceeded warnings tell you when to add credits, upgrade, or wait for a subscription cycle.

Chapter 10: Credits

Credits and billing

Credits are used for AI-powered generation. Pricing & Plans includes a credit estimator, current balance, subscriptions, credit bundles, pay as you go, and billing FAQ.

Credit bundles

Best for one-time catalog cleanup, seasonal launches, or stores that do not optimize every week.

  • Buy credits as needed
  • No recurring charge
  • Credits do not expire

Subscriptions

Best for stores that optimize products weekly or monthly and want predictable credit access.

  • Included credits every month
  • Lower per-credit cost at higher tiers
  • Subscription credits reset each cycle

Pay as you go

Best when you want Shopify-approved usage billing with a monthly spending cap.

  • Pay only for actual generations
  • Set a monthly cap
  • Requires Shopify billing authorization

Good to know

  • New stores may receive welcome credits to try Lyros.
  • Product tags, product titles, product descriptions, and complete meta tags generally use 1 credit per product.
  • Image alt text generally uses 1 credit per image.
  • Manual edits you type yourself are free.
  • The app shows estimates before large bulk jobs whenever possible.
  • If you run out of credits, add more credits or choose an available billing option.
Troubleshooting

FAQ and common questions

Quick answers to the questions merchants ask most often.

Insights and navigation
Where should I start if my catalog has hundreds of products?

Start in SEO Insights. Refresh the analysis, open the highest-severity issue, and let the insight take you to the matching AI SEO Studio tab. This is safer than opening a full catalog bulk job without knowing which products need work.

Why am I only seeing a small group of products in AI SEO Studio?

You may have opened the studio from an insight. Look for the banner that names the SEO issue and use Show all products when you want to return to the full catalog.

What does the Refresh button in AI SEO Studio do?

It refreshes merchant stats such as optimized counts, products needing optimization, and image counts. Use it after a large job if the KPI tiles have not caught up yet.

Product descriptions
I generated a description, but my store still shows the old one.

For manual description generation, clicking Generate creates a draft. You need to review the generated description and click Save to update the product in Shopify. If you already saved, refresh the storefront and check whether your theme is showing Shopify's product description or content from a custom metafield or page builder.

Does Lyros overwrite my product description automatically?

No. Manual generation keeps you in control. Lyros creates a draft first, then you decide whether to edit, discard, or save it to Shopify.

Why does my storefront still show old content after saving?

Your browser may be cached, the theme may use a custom product template, or a page builder or metafield may be overriding Shopify's standard product description. Check the product in Shopify Admin first to confirm whether the saved description is there.

Should I edit in Rich Text or HTML?

Use Rich Text for most descriptions. Use HTML only when you need exact markup control. Lyros strips unsupported tags before saving, so check the warning message and preview before publishing.

SEO
What is SEO optimization?

SEO optimization creates search-friendly product metadata: a meta title and meta description designed to help shoppers understand your product from search results.

What is the difference between product description and meta description?

The product description is visible on the product page. The meta description is SEO metadata for search engines and previews; it does not usually replace the visible product description.

Why does Google still show an old SEO description?

Search engines can take time to recrawl pages. Google may also choose a different snippet from the page if it believes that snippet better matches a shopper's search.

What does the SEO score mean?

The score is a working signal, not a guarantee of search ranking. Use it to find missing, short, overly long, or weak metadata. Still read the final title and description like a shopper would.

Do product tags affect Google SEO?

Product tags primarily help with on-site discoverability: collections, filters, and your store search. For search engines, focus on SEO titles, meta descriptions, and image alt text.

Tags, titles, and image alt text
How does Lyros generate tags?

Lyros analyzes your product titles, descriptions, and images to suggest accurate, relevant tags. These tags can support on-site search, filters, and collections.

What if I do not like the generated tags?

You are always in control. Edit or remove individual tags, regenerate with better guidance, or restore previous tags when that option is available.

Can Lyros generate image alt text?

Yes. Lyros can write concise, accessible alt text using your product images and details. This supports accessibility and image SEO.

Why did bulk alt text change existing alt text?

The bulk alt-text job can prioritize missing alt text and then optimize existing alt text when the job scope calls for it. If you only want blank images handled, use the Manage modal and Generate For Missing for a more controlled pass.

What is classification mode for tags?

Classification mode restricts generated tags to your approved list. Use it when your filters, collections, or reporting depend on exact tag names.

Do you support multiple languages?

Lyros generally follows the language of your product details. For best results, keep the source product title and description in the language you want generated content to use.

Bulk jobs and credits
Can I run bulk jobs?

Yes. You can run bulk jobs for product tags, SEO titles and descriptions, product descriptions, titles, and image alt text. Review the job scope and credit estimate before starting.

How long does generation take?

Single items usually complete quickly. Bulk jobs run in the background and can take longer depending on catalog size and the type of content being generated.

Where do I check failed bulk items?

Open Activity and filter by the feature or Failed status. Job details show processed items, successful items, failed items, skipped items, credits, and error messages when the backend returned them.

When am I charged for generation?

Credits are deducted as AI generations are performed. If you use subscriptions or pay-as-you-go, billing is handled through Shopify according to the option you selected.

Why do I need to authorize billing?

Billing authorization applies to pay-as-you-go. It lets Shopify approve a spending cap. You are charged only according to actual eligible usage under that billing setup.

Account and support
Is my product data safe?

Lyros uses product data only to provide the app's optimization features. You approve publishing changes, and generated content remains under your control.

Can I stop using the app anytime?

Yes. You can uninstall Lyros from Shopify. Content already saved to your products remains in Shopify unless you change it later.

How do I get help?

Email [email protected] with your store URL, the product you are editing, and a short description of what happened.
